- This is a very interesting piece that points out the big problems with Trump’s place in the GOP. Ultimately, his goals do not match up with the ideology of his most dedicated congressional allies. This will only get owrse over time. [Trump’s tax cuts are set to shrink after GOP flinches at deep spending cuts] by [Ben Leonard] in [POLITICO] at [https://www.politico.com/news/2025/05/09/trump-tax-cuts-shrink-gop-megabill-00337330]
- I continue to be surprised by how academia in general has apparently been taken in completely by the idea that the only way student’s can learn is by doing the same things their professors did when they were undergraduates. The solution to these issues is to teach professors and teachers how to teach people with their current world in mind. Build assignments that assume students will use AI as a tool. It takes a bit of work. So stop recycling your old syllabi and do the word of reaching. [Everyone Is Cheating Their Way Through College] by [James D. Walsh] in [Intelligencer] at [https://nymag.com/intelligencer/article/openai-chatgpt-ai-cheating-education-college-students-school.html?ref=platformer.news]
- This article is just hilarious. No where does Gonzalez even bother to ask whether the news should have an obligation to reporting any kind of objective reality. He, like the “think” tank he “works” for (Heritage) is too preoccupied by partisanship to provide anything other than an essay that is ultimately a call for the same betrayal of enlightenment ideas as the “woke” people he claims to be against. Read it to understand what reactionary American conservatism actually means these days: the abandonment of all intellectual rigor in favor of demands that news should give flat-earthers and PhD geographers equal time just because they are on opposite sides. [NPR and PBS dug their own graves Taxpayers tired of the bias] by [Mike Gonzalez] in [UnHerd] at [https://unherd.com/2025/05/npr-and-pbs-dug-their-own-grave/]
