This week – Articles from the week to April 27, 2025

Each week I share the articles and essays that I found most interesting, annoying, challenging, or important. Hope that you check them out too.

[Gen Z,  Media Illiterates] by [Politico] in [POLITICO] at [https://www.politico.com/news/magazine/2025/04/23/gen-z-media-tiktok-misinformation-00287561]

I am continuously surprised by how susceptible to misinformation people of all ages are. A scary, scary problem.
[JD Vance doesn’t understand the Suez Crisis] by [Kojo Koram] in [New Statesman] at [https://www.newstatesman.com/politics/2025/04/jd-vance-doesnt-understand-the-suez-crisis]
[Opinion | Populists Are Gaining Power and Keeping It. What Comes Next?] by [Anthony J. Constantini] in [POLITICO] at [https://www.politico.com/news/magazine/2025/04/13/trump-populism-europe-us-00287198]

This is the kind of article “about populism” that drives me nuts. Doesn’t define the term, just lumps all far right-wing movements in Europe as “populist.”
[Opinion | America Is Learning the Wrong Lesson from Elon Musk’s Success – The New York Times] by [Adam Grant] in [New York Times] at [https://www.nytimes.com/2025/04/13/opinion/elon-musk-leadership-business-education.html]
[Free Markets and Fixed Natures] by [Quinn Slobodian] in [Boston Review] at [https://www.bostonreview.net/articles/free-markets-and-fixed-natures/]

As always, Slobodian is a must-read. I continue to be convinced that the neoliberal politics the West have embraced since the eighties is why we’re in the situation we are in with politics, crisis, and illegitimacy.
